2007 CAI BRONZE MEDAL REPORT
The 2007 Bronze Medal Competition was held at Newcastle on Saturday 5th May. Competitors were Nathaniel Healy and Brian Harris from Newcastle, Jane Shorten (last year's winner) and Ben Reeves Smith from Carrickmines and Robert Barklie from Herbert Park. Play was on the lawns at Healy's and Johnston's, so there was no need for double banking with the small entry
After play on Saturday Nathaniel, Jane and Robert were on three wins each, with Robert having beaten Jane and Nathaniel having beaten Robert. Therefore the game on Sunday morning between Jane and Nathaniel would lead to a three way tie requiring a countback of points or else provide a clear winner. Nathaniel hit in on the fourth turn and took Yellow to 4b. Unfortunately both players became wary and substantial breaks fell apart at tight hoops and long return roquets. Eventually, Nathaniel hit in after Jane had wired herself from the one live ball in her turn and took Red from to the peg, where he finished. .He was then presented with the Medal to the cheers of the huge crowd of supporters.
