Irish Masters Championship

The details for the Irish Masters have been published and are available here.

This is a competition of 2 divisions with eight players in each, initially chosen by the selection committee. It is planned that this event will provide competitive play which will count for world rankings and will develop the depth of the international squad.

Proposed venues and date are: Herbert Park 26,27 April, Newcastle 21,22 June and Carrickmines on 19,20 July and 23 August.

Congratulations to Andrew on qualifying, but how unlucky it was to be drawn against the eventual winner in the knock-out section.

In 1900, tournaments are advertised in Glenageary (2 lawns) and Athlone (3 lawns)
In 1901, the first North of Ireland Championship is played at Belfast, and a tournament at Mullingar is also covered.
In 1902, England played Ireland at Wimbledon, winning by 5 matches to 3. The Irish team was: C. Corbally, R.N. Roper, J.R. Murphy and S.G. Butson. This could be the first croquet international match!
