Simon Williams (Carrickmines) won the 2014 Golf Croquet Championship, played at Carrickmines, with the disappointingly low entry of 10 (with room for 32). Of the strongest players, Jack Clingan, Robert Barklie and former champions Fred Rogerson and Ronan Rogerson were missing. Those who attended enjoyed many competitive games in the bright sunshine.
In the final, Simon recovered from a first-game loss to beat Evan Newell (Carrickmines) at hoop 12 of the third game. He beat five-times champion Patsy Fitzgerald (Co. Meath Croquet Cracks) in the semifinal, while Evan beat Danny Johnston (Dublin University). Sandy Greig of Carrickmines made a great start in the event, with wins over Evan and Patsy, but Danny knocked him out in the end.
