In a sun soaked and action packed day at Carrickmines CLTC, the Irish Masters event began to hot up as it draws to its conclusion. With only a couple of rounds left before the finals, Simon Williams maintained his 100% record by dispatching Conor Broderick and Gerard Healy during the week (the latter with a TPO and a sextuple peel). He then promptly beat Andrew Johnston in two games on Sunday. The other notable performance of the weekend came from Patsy Fitzgerald who brushed both opponents aside with 2-0 victories and 4 triple peels. Patsy's second victory was against Ed Cunningham who was joint leader heading into this weekend's matches. Although Ed was obviously in good form having completed his third (not second as first reported - admin) sextuple peel of the season against Nathaniel Healy in the morning, a couple of errors allowed Patsy to reignite his challenge for the title.
In Division 2, Evan Newell kept the pressure up on Robert Barklie with a victory over Russell Harris. Robert remains the favourite to win the division with the playoff places all still up for grabs.
The finals of this exciting inaugural event will take place in Carrickmines CLTC on August 23rd. A cocktail reception which is open to all CAI members will be held to present the new trophies which have kindly been donated by Nathaniel Healy and to launch our strategic plan for the coming 5 years.
