Myles McWeeney wins the Gymnastic cup at Carrickmines
The annual match between CAI (Nathaniel Healy, Jane Morrison, Sandy Greig, Daniel Bennett, Alan Looney and Gerard Osborne Burke) and SCA (John Surgenor, Chris Martin, Janice Duguid, David Houston, Brian Durward and Bob Darling) was played at the Meadows Club in central Edinburgh last weekend under glorious sunshine and the Irish emerged victorious in a closely fought contest where they were always in the lead.

The CAI Selectors have announced the team to play against the Scottish Croquet Association for the Appleton trophy, which happens in Edinburgh this year. It is Nathaniel Healy (C), Jane Shorten, Sandy Grieg, Daniel Bennett, Alan Looney and Gerard Osborne Burke

The tournament embraced some proposed variations proposed by Howard Sosin who competed in the Green Cup in the Irish Open in 2017. He did explain some of his proposals to us during the event. Croquet at Carrickmines: The Gymnastic Cup.
Date: 6th and 7th May 2018
The first Open Croquet Tournament at Carrickmines in 2018 will be the long-standing Gymnastic Cup. To be held over 2 days, 6 and 7 May.
This is an Association Croquet Handicap event, 26-point games. Handicaps as listed on the CAI website will apply.
Players must commit to playing on both days, start time 10am.
Tournament Manager Gerard Osborne Burke. The exact format of the Tournament will depend on the number of entries.
20th February 2018: Maymes Ansell has died following a long illness. She was a former member of Herbert Park and Carrickmines, and will be remembered in croquet especially for her valuable work and support for the 2007 World Women's GC Championship.
The Council of the C.A.I. offers its sympathy and condolences to her family and friends. Maymes decided that her body should go to medical research, and details of services will be circulated privately.
This will be held at the Egyptian Croquet Federation in Cairo, Egypt from Saturday, 6 October to Saturday, 13 October 2018. The maximum Event Capacity will be 48.

Cliff Jones, Director of the C.A Coaching Academy, has accepted an invitation to travel to Ireland to give AC coaching to members of the C.A.I in March 2018 at Carrickmines.
