Danny and Andrew win Masters divisions.
Herbert Park Croquet Club Croquet Notes 2010
The first match of the season was on May 8th against Carrickmines at Carrickmines. A slight disaster for HPCC who lost 8-1 but this was offset, to some extent, by a most substantial and enjoyable tea.
Lovely sunny weather with less than one hours drizzle all weekend. Nineteen players after a handful of withdrawals (including two English visitors who we hope can get their passports in order in time for next years tournament!). Nice afternoon teas thanks to the tennis brigade in Carrickmines and top quality lawns as per usual from Simon and Rocket.
All levels welcome.
Pay starts at 10.00am each day.
Play either or both days

Championship of Ireland singles:
Duff Matthews Trophy - Winner: Ben Rothman (USA)
Runner Up: Simon Williams (The Leslie Webb Salver)
Championship Doubles:
TXT 5: Ireland finish poorly against Wales losing 5-1. Captain Andrew Johnston earning the only point and maintaining his 100% record in the singles with a 2-1 win against Ian Burridge. Wales won the competition on a matches countback beating South Africa in 2nd place.
TXT 4: Ireland trail Wales 2-0 after day 1. A very frustrating day for all of us.
TXT 3: Ireland lose to South Africa 4-2. Some consolation in Captain Andrew Johnston beating World Champion Reg Bamford in a three game thriller.
The Irish team which leaves for London this weekend to compete in the World Team Championship consists of four players from Newcastle Croquet Club. They are Ed Cunningham, Andrew Johnston, Kieran Murphy and Danny Johnston.
After a very successful Irish Open Championship last week the handicaps of several players have been changed. The biggest drop was for Fiachra Carroll, who drops from 14 to 8 after winning all 3 competitions he entered.
I've posted a set of photos from the match against Australia from last weekend. Click on the photo on right to view the gallery.
Danny Johnston and Fiachra Carroll competed in the Students Championships, representing Trinity. Danny reached the Semi-finals in the singles and together they reached the doubles Semi-finals also.
Well done to Danny who recorded his first tp in competition. Web editor
