2019 Irish Golf Croquet Championship

The Irish Open Golf Championship final was well worth the watching: five full games of World-class hitting, manoeuvring, dogged contention and sparkling invention between two in-form internationals, that put the rest of the play, and all previous finals, in the shade. In the last, Patsy acquired a lead after Mark clanged hoop six from straight in front, having ‘won’ it in a tremendous battle, and unfortunately rushed Patsy’s ball through hoop seven shortly afterwards! Patsy did not relax the pressure, and Mark’s rearguard fight came to an end at hoop eleven. Click Title to read Simon's full report.

Ireland v Great Britain - Match Report

Carrickmines was the venue for the 2019 test match between Ireland and Great Britain. In the history of this event, Ireland has only won once back in 2005. The visitors captained by David Maugham brought a strong team as per usual with all members of the team in the top 50 players in the world. But with the smaller 4 person team, Ireland was more confident of being competitive.

Irish Open 2019 Day 7

Inclement weather on Day 7 of the Irish Open could not dampen the spirits of competitors nor their acolytes. A veritable power play from Andrew Johnston resulted in a brace of triple peels in his 2 nil win versus Danny Johnston. Also in the Championship Singles, Patsy Fitzgerald twarted the hopes of US public representative, Randy Cardo, with some clever approach play and accurate hoop-running. Cardo displayed some outstanding shot-making and an even temperament in a game that had neutrals cooing.
