Ireland win 2014 World Team Championships Tier 2.1

The 2014 World Team Championships Tier 2.1 were kindly hosted by Carrickmines Croquet and Lawn Tennis club between the 12-th and 17th of May. The event consisted of four nations, fielding teams of 4 players, playing a round robin of 2-day Test matches with 2x doubles matches and 4x singles. The Irish team of Simon Williams, Danny Johnston (C), Nathaniel Healy and Patsy Fitzgerald began playing against a Scottish team reduced to three by injury. Ireland eventually came through as comfortable 4-1 winners. In the course of this match Patsy sustained an injury to his wrist playing Campbell Morrison and was replaced by Evan Newall for the subsequent matches.

World Team Championships Carrickmines 12th-17th May

The World Team Championships begins on Monday the 12th of May and continues until Saturday the 17th.
Being played in the wonderful settings of Carrickmines Croquet and Lawn Tennis Club, the event consists of a series of 2-day "mini" Tests, played between teams of 4, consisting of 1 round of doubles and 1 round of singles with a tie breaker round to be played if the scores are level.

The Irish Team would love to see support out in force, please come and see some top class croquet players in action.

On a drizzly afternoon members gathered together with a few guests at the idyllic lake site court to contest the doubles plate. The rain saw the surprisingly early exit of the title holders of The Consolation America Doubles, the club secretary Hugh O’Neill and his partner.

Norwegian Open date change

The date of the Norwegian Open GC Championships has been changed to 23rd - 24th August 2014. Latest entry is now 1st July and all other details are as previous post.

The Ireland team for World Team Championships in Dublin in May 12-17th is

The CAI selectors wish the team the very best in their preparations and the event itself.

Ireland will face South Africa, Scotland, and current champions Wales in three 2-day matches from the 12th-17th of May in Carrickmines.

Invitation to Norwegian Open Golf Croquet

An invitation has been received from the president of the Norwegian Croquet Association to compete in their Open Golf Championship.
This will be held from the 16th to 17th of August, 2014 at Hurum Golf Course.

New Zealand win MacRobertson Shield

New Zealand have won the MacRobertson Shield for the 4th time since the tournaments instigation in 1925. They have wrested the trophy from the English team for the first time in many years, defeating the USA and Australia along the way. This triumph sets up the next tier event to be held in Carrickmines in May, where the Irish team will hope to claim the World Team Champions title from their Welsh counterparts who took the honours in 2010.

WCF over 50s & Women's World Championships 2014

The World Croquet Federation will hold an over-50s Golf Croquet World Championship and a Women's Golf Croquet World Championship, both in Cairo, next October and November, respectively. Any Irish players considering playing in these events please tell the Honorary Secretary soon, so that the C.A.I. can apply for an appropriate number of places in these events.
